Magic Moments

Lexi and I are reading The Secret of the Old Clock, Nancy Drew mystery #1. Each night we read for at least twenty minutes and we have a blast! Last night when I told her we were going to read together after I finished Effortless Living Class, she said, "SWEET!" When we cuddled up on the couch to do the reading, I could tell she was feeling all full up of "mommy juice."

We have a tradition I started when Lexi began kindergarten - after the first day of school, we change into pjs, make chocolate chip cookies and talk about the day.

When I think back to my childhood, there are a few very special things my mom did that have always stayed with me ... she made matching dresses for us to wear (so '70s!), she taught me how to crochet and she read to me, and eventually with me, at every opportunity. These moments were magical to me and made me feel special and loved. That's exactly what I have in mind for my daughter.

I'm curious to know what you do to create magic moments with your kids?

My grandmother and I used to read together every night when I was little. We read the borrowers and Stuart Little, with her reading a page or two, and then I would. I did this with my sons when they started reading as well.

Another tradition my family has had since my mom was a little girl was our Christmas Eve presents. There is always one xmas eve present that everyone is allowed to open that night. It's always brand new pajamas. I looked forward to it every year and couldn't wait to see my new Pj's. Even though my sons are teenagers now, this is something they still enjoy!

Reading has been a huge part of the juice in our household. Sierra and I have read the entire Harry Potter Series together...3 times!! Yeah...it's a bit of an obsession. And we collect Wizard Rock music too (the Parselmouths is Sierra's favorite band, mine is the Whomping Willows).

We also do the Christmas Eve pajama gift. That way everyone is cute and ready for pictures in the morning.

And every now and then I do way over the top things...just because. My friend Lisa & I, got a Limo and took 6 kids to the Hannah Montana concert at the MGM Grand last year. Whew...that was a riot! And something we'll never forget.

And we threw the most ridiculous over the top Harry Potter birthday party ever..when Sierra was 7. Yeah...a bit much, but worth every penny.
