Oprah Was Wrong! Single Moms are not Schlumpadinks!

I was inspired to write The Successful Single Mom book after watching an Oprah makeover show in early 2008. Rita Hazan, the famous hair stylist, was Oprah's makeover genius, and she did work wonders on the single mom in her early 40s. But as Rita introduced the mom, Oprah made a comment along the lines of "Of course she's a schlumpadink! She's a single mom, so she's taking care of everyone but herself!"

I Call Bullsh!t

I didn't take offense to Oprah's comments, but I challenged the notion that because someone is a single mom, they must wear over-sized, unflattering clothing, have their hair in a scrunchie, and look tired and haggard. I can see where she made the connection between having children with no support from dad, having to work extra long and hard to provide for the children, and feel spread too thin.

HOWEVER. This assumption needn't be true.

(For example, Oprah's BFF Gayle is a single mom ... and she, by all appearances, is rockin' the world!)

If you're a single mom, and the paragraph above describes you more often than it doesn't, your life doesn't have to be that way! There is a way to be a fantastic mom, a put-together and happy lady, with a clean house, a full bank account, and all the love and friendship you can handle ... if you're into that sort of thing.

Start today by creating a vision of the future you want to have, and then start living into that future. Create a plan, and work that plan! Surround yourself with other positive thinkers (this might be of interest) and pretty soon, you'll be a happier, sexier and more successful version of yourself.
